Walking Buddy

Motivation, motivation and more motivation

Well I finally MOTIVATED myself to get my sorry butt off the couch and tip-toe back into running. I've spent the past 5 years using an Achilles injury as a lame excuse for not running. Lock-down has given me the opportunity to mull this over and to try to do something about this sad excuse! It's taken a good 5 months of thought to get me to this point. I decided to start doing something about it in July and started to take Olive out on longer walks. I eased my walking speed up to about 5.5 km/h and tried to sustain this speed through the whole of the selected route, about 7 km in length.

I finally MOTIVATED myself to move up to walk/run yesterday. It's interesting to note that despite increasing my speed around the walk, Olive still managed to pull on the road (lead) walking sections! Not too sure how fast I'm going to have to move to stop her pulling?

Anyway, it felt funny putting my running stuff on again, to walk the dog! Once stretched off we got on with it, Walking Buddy on the lead and The Mission playlist selected on Spotify. No getting out of this now.

Looking back at my Garmin feedback it looks like my average speed increased from about 5.5 km/h to ~7 km/h. It doesn't sound much but I'm pretty pleased with this as a starting point! My Garmin showed that the intervals were pretty consistent throughout the route so happy all round. I just have to figure out how to loosen off my sore muscles now!

Anyway MOTIVATION got me back in the running way of thinking. It has a multitude of good side effects too these being feeling more vital, feeling more energetic and feeling able to apply myself more effectively. This must benefit my professional side too as a more vital me means a happier working day and better productivity.

Lets see!
