Have been trying to find a suitably flat flying site to learn the art of drone flying. This is easier said than done. Living in Laurencekirk you would think this would be easy. Sadly this isn't quite so as most of the fields around here are full of crops or long grass (fallow) which isn't conducive to successful drone launching or landing. I'm sure the farmers would be OK with me doing some flying in their fields but there isn't much point in asking right now given the state of the fields. Applying a little lateral thinking I have joined a model flying club in Montrose who use the Broomfield playing fields. This would give me legitimate access to a flat site. That's the plan now I need to stick to it! Today looks pretty good so I plan on getting down to Montrose to do some practice.

As far as the CAA PfCO, Permission for Commercial Operations, is concerned I continue to prepare my Operations Manual. This is a bit of a slog as I need to be able to apply everything I allude to in the manual, no sand bagging! Each time I look at the document I think of more things to put in, I think I may be in danger of overloading it though. Once I have a workable manual I need to forward a draft to training establishment I am registered with who will comment and return until we are all happy with it!

My CAA Theory test is booked for the 30th of this month, I'm pretty comfortable with this, having a Private Pilot's License helps here as I generally know what to expect in this exam. Having said all that, though, I still have the odd niggling doubt that must be dealt with.

Once the Theory test and the Ops Manual are in the bag booking a flight test is the next order of the day. This is wholly dependent on the state of lockdown, possible test locations are Aberdeen, at Ardoe House, or somewhere in Edinburgh. Let's see what transpires in the coming weeks.
